The problem had plagued touring lighting departments for decades: how do you get light exactly where a designer wants it when the structure, set piece, or location makes cabling physically impossible, commercially prohibitive, or aesthetically ruinous? For thirty years, the answer involved compromise — a different fixture, a different position, a different design.
